Synopsis

There are a lot of characters and subplots in Por, and it's quite natural that the film isn't able to justify all of them.

Por Movie Synopsis:

Por Movie Review: At the crux of it, Por is about a few university students being impractical and basically doing everything that we expect someone of that age to do. But here, it happens in a more massier and heightened fashion.

Usually, films that revolve around ego conflicts between college-going students might come across as frivolous and amateurish. But, in Por, the rivalry between two students, freshman Yuva (Kalidas Jayaram) and super senior Prabhu (Arjun Das), gives you a feeling that there's more at stake here.

Por’s addressal of politics and caste could have seemed forcefully blended into the plotline just for the sake of it. But the makers do a good job of integrating these touches with dignity and keeping them synchronised with the overall storyline by not overdoing it.

Even scenes that we have seen a hundred times before, like seniors ragging freshers or the standoff between the leads, don't come across as stale.

The music, cinematography, performances, editing, etc. truly elevate this film, which could have turned out to be yet another film about college life. If we just look at the basic story of Por, there's nothing that really happens. It is to the film's credit that it keeps you engaged and entertained throughout with its plethora of characters.

There are a lot of characters and subplots in Por, and it's quite natural that the film isn't able to justify all of them. The runtime of Por may work against the film, as there are a few subplots in the film that could have easily been avoided. Especially the character of Bhama and the contant supposed to be funny factor that Bhama and Aama rhymes just feels so unnecessary.

Por’s cast is unanimously good, including its leads, Arjun Das and Kalidas Jayaram. The latter is particularly wonderful in a role that could have very well gone wrong in the hands of a less talented actor.

At the end of the day, a person's enjoyment of Por will also depend on which stage of life they are currently in. Some may feel like a bunch of college-going students are just wasting their time by behaving like imbeciles and doing trivial stuff. But if you are ready to buy into the film's world, Por offers you a good movie experience that's worth cherishing.
